San Diego reported a 6.6 percent year-over-year decrease in people counted living on city streets during the 2026 Point-in-Time survey.
It was the second consecutive annual decline in the city's unsheltered count. Officials credited expanded shelter and outreach capacity while acknowledging that thousands of residents remained without stable housing.
As with every Point-in-Time result, the number is a one-night estimate shaped by survey conditions. Longer-term measures—including housing placements, returns to homelessness and inflow—are needed to understand whether the improvement will hold.
