Comic-Con International agreed to keep its flagship convention in San Diego through 2030, extending a relationship that began in 1970.
The agreement followed recurring questions about hotel capacity, costs and competition from other convention cities. Local officials estimated the 2026 gathering would draw more than 135,000 attendees and generate over $160 million in regional economic activity.
The extension preserved an event woven into San Diego's modern identity while leaving long-term questions about convention space, visitor affordability and downtown infrastructure for future negotiations.
